THE LIBRARIAN: CURSE OF THE JUDAS CHALICE
    7 p.m. Sunday, TNT

The scoop: Overworked, nerdy librarian and reluctant adventurer Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) needs a vacation, so he heads off to New Orleans, where he stumbles onto a plot by a former Russian KGB boss. He is forcing Professor Lazlo (Bruce Davison), a history expert whom Carsen admires, to help him find the Judas Chalice, which has the power to resurrect the undead—in this case Vlad Dracul (that’s Count Dracula).

What works: Wyle works, as do co-stars Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin, who all return for the third of the Indiana Jones-style swashbuckler series that have had Carsen searching for rare artifacts across the globe. Wyle is perfectly charming as Carsen, who manages to talk his way into the arms of beautiful jazz club singer Simone Renoir (Stana Katic) out of a lot of dangerous situations.

What doesn’t: The third time isn’t as charming for the franchise, as “Judas Chalice” gets a little too goofy and chaotically plotted.

Tune in or out: out of 4. Despite the small drawbacks, this romp is a fun little treat with impressive special effects, so get some popcorn, sit back and let yourself go.
