Fox provided this image of the "Entertainment Weekly" story on Seth MacFarlane.

As Glenn Quagmire would say, “Giggity giggity goo!”

    Seth1

“Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane (right) tops Entertainment Weekly’s list of the 25 smartest people in TV. MacFarlane, who also created “American Dad” and the upcoming “Family Guy” spin-off “The Cleveland Show,” is the highest paid writer on TV, the magazine reports. The Associated Press reports that “Family Guy” DVDs and merchandise have earned a reported $1 billion.

“That frat-boy persona is only a cover,” the magazine said.

I figured “30 Rock” creator Tina Fey would take the "smartest" title, but she’s second on the list, according to the AP report.

Here's what the "EW" article says about MacFarlane: “That frat-boy persona is only a cover. MacFarlane earns the $100 million that Fox is paying him to keep ‘Family Guy’ and ‘American Dad’ on Sundays through 2012, especially when you consider that ‘Family Guy’ DVDs and merchandise have pulled in a reported $1 billion for 20th Century Fox. The apple-faced prankster secured a full-season order for a ‘Family Guy’ spin-off called ‘The Cleveland Show,’ and still finds time to shoot his ‘Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy’ Web shorts (and animated ads) for a separate deal with Google. With ‘Guy’ reruns airing approximately 20 hours a week on various networks, it’s no wonder MacFarlane is now the highest-paid writer in TV.”

I haven't seen the entire list, but AP reports that Oprah Winfrey came in sixth. I wonder where "Lost" and "Fringe" creator J.J. Abrams landed? Tyler Perry is probably high on the list too, and possibly "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Dollhouse" creator Joss Whedon, who came up with the marvelous Web TV event "Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog."

We'll have to wait for the "EW" issue to hit newsstands on Friday. Who do you think might be on the list? Comment, comment, comment.
