“Arrested Development” fans, rejoice. Your fave TV show is becoming a movie.

That’s according to star Jeffrey Tambor (above) anyway, who yesterday told Steve Weintraub of collider.com that the much-rumored film is a go. Tambor said he talked to “AD” creator Mitch Hurwitz last week, who said it was on.

Tambor didn’t know any specifics about the project, but said that fans can be sure it’s happening.

“When the writer calls you, and the director, and the executive producer calls you, it’s a pretty good sign,” Tambor said in the interview, which you can watch for yourself at Collider.

Tambor said he’s looking forward to revisiting “Arrested Development” and his character, George Bluth Sr.

“We want to close that,” he said. “We want to bring that all to fruition.”

The show starred Tambor, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Tony Hale, David Cross and Jessica Walter, among others.

    Happiest day of my life!

Hehe maybe that's slightly extreme, but I've just ploughed through all three seasons for the first time, on the recommendation of so many friends, and I am gutted I wasn't around three years ago to support the show. Highest benchmark of comedy on TV and I think this will be the first time I've ever seen a movie twice in the cinemas!

    Curt's reply: That's $19, J76, start saving.

Well, a lot of the credit will need to go to Jason Bateman who really get promoting and pushing for it!

Curt's reply: True that, Regina. And now that he is gaining high-profile movie roles, somebody will throw some coin to back this movie.

    Posted by: Regina | Nov 12, 2008 12:12:05 PM

Oh that is so fantastic!! I have been waiting for this so I really hope it happens.

    Curt's reply: Sam here, Mona.

If I find out these are lies, then I won't be responsible for my actions.

Curt's reply: Keep the faith, D. And no retribution!

YAY!!!! HOORAY!!!! YIPPEE!!!!! FABULOUS!!!!! Basically, awesomely great news.

Great news for comedy fans. Tambor has had some great luck with roles of TV shows. He did Larry Sanders and AD...what a lucky dude.

The comedy of AD can be summed up easily: http://fiturl.com/17m

I love to hear that its back even if its not a tv series. Why they canceled a show that is already considered a classic is beyond me.

    ballin' ooc

    OMAZING!

The show was great I hope the movie lives up to the same expectations.

    Yehaw!
    This show was top notch.

    Posted by: Timothy | Nov 12, 2008 3:28:13 PM

    HECK YES

    It feels like Christmas

    Curt's reply: Merry, merry, Chris.

    Posted by: Chris | Nov 12, 2008 4:05:29 PM

I hope we'll see more of Mr. F!

    Posted by: Aaron | Nov 12, 2008 4:34:20 PM

Since most mainstream Chicagoans have no taste for anything remotely interesting, this piece of news should have no relevance here.

Curt's reply: Matt, why so negative when great news comes out? Tsk, tsk.

    Posted by: Matt | Nov 12, 2008 5:31:16 PM

Whoever canceled this show should be SHOT and then fired. And in the meantime, How I Met Your Mother is in its fourth season??!! Talk about the masters of the very occasional laugh. Come ON! I'm laughing just REMEMBERING Arrested Development.

Who's on that hog behind us?
    George Michael!

Her? What, is she funny or something?

Ah, it gets me every time. I'm going to repurchase all the DVDs right now simply from my incredible excitement!

Curt's reply: Brandon's an "AD" savant. Love it!

    Posted by: Brandon | Nov 12, 2008 5:39:28 PM

the movie *needs* the entire original cast or it will flop.

Curt's reply: I agree completely, and guess that they would all come on board.

    Posted by: Dave | Nov 12, 2008 7:01:19 PM

    It's finally happening Michael!

Posted by: Duh Only | Nov 12, 2008 8:28:23 PM

    Dude! Finally!

    Curt's reply: Woot! Woot!

    Posted by: Nathan | Nov 12, 2008 10:39:49 PM

Thank You, this is proof that there is a god.

Curt's reply: Is his name Bluth, Dave?

    Posted by: dave | Nov 13, 2008 12:15:50 AM

I hope this one will be proved to be true.

    Posted by: charles | Nov 13, 2008 8:46:45 AM

I hope it takes on the "Family Guy" situation. Where the DVD's and the movie become such a money maker that they put the show back on TV. I'm having trouble typing because I'm shaking from excitement!!!!!!!!

Curt's reply: Breathe deeply into a paper bag.

Best TV series ever, I truly hope this is not just a rumor! Original cast will only make the movie a success!

    Posted by: Sheri | Nov 13, 2008 10:23:29 AM

I feel like having a banger in the mouth to celebrate! :) oh no its true most of you guys would probably call it a sausage in the mouth.

Sending this article to everyone I know.

    Look at article, Michael!

I was about to say the same thing as "Swim University"... Maybe if they make enough money in the theatres, SOMEONE will realize it belongs on TV... Everyone go, and for once, don't pirate it! :P And then buy it in iTunes or something afterwards!

    Posted by: AriX | Nov 13, 2008 11:09:15 AM

I feel like we've been hearing this for too long. I need a set date for release! This is a movie we will stand in line to watch. We will miss our dinner of hot ham water!
This is going to be something........with club sauce.
