    'Firefly': Best sci-fi show ever?

    Posted at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 18

After nearly 20,000 votes were cast online, Joss Whedon’s “Firefly” has been chosen as the No. 1 science fiction TV show to watch.

I love “Firefly,” but No. 1? What about “BSG” (No. 2) or the original “Star Trek” (No. 9) or, hello, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (No. 10) moving up to that No. 1 spot? What about "Farscape" or "Space 1999" or "Torchwood," none of which made the list?

No diss to “Firefly,” which I would put in the Top 10. It did spawn a great movie sequel called “Serenity” and brought Summer Glau (below) to our attention, but still.

In a few days I'll be posting my top sci-fi shows of all time. Please leave me your picks for the Top 10 in the comments section.

Below are the results of the Visions For Tomorrow poll.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference 'Firefly': Best sci-fi show ever?:

    Comments

Here's my top three (I'm not sure I could go as deep as ten, but then I'm pretty picky):

    1. Firefly (hands down)
    2. BSG
    3. Babylon 5

I like the various StarTrek shows old and new, but I'd really have to sit down and think about how I'd rank them. So, I'm just not going to.

I don't consider Buffy sci fi.
Curt's reply: Yeah Laura, I'm not sure "Buffy" shoudl be in the mix either. I will be adding a post about my picks soon. Thanks for sending me yours.

Firefly is the best show I have ever seen. No matter how many times I watch it, it never ceases to amaze me. It is both dark and funny, in a way that has never been paralelled. There are hidden meanings to almost every episode. "We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."

Curt's reply: Thanks for reading and commenting. Are you excited for Joss' "Dollhouse?"
