Funny Or Die coming to HBO

    Posted at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 11

Will Ferrell and HBO are about to change the world by bringing Funny or Die to HBO.

HBO and Funny Or Die, the comedy Web site founded by Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy, have come to an agreement to develop 10 half-hour episodes of comedy for the cable network.

“I don’t want to overstate the importance of this deal, but this is the missing link moment where TV and internet finally merge,” Ferrell said in an HBO press release. “It will change the way we as human beings perceive and interact with reality. OK, I overstated it. But it is an exciting deal.”

According to HBO, the series will be similar to the Web, presenting “the innovative and comedic sensibilities of the Funny Or Die creative team.”

The award-winning Web site launched over a year ago and his since become a top stop for comedy on the Web. Funny Or Die has had more than 213 million video views of the ore than 37,000 videos uploaded.

McKay said he was happy with the agreement.

“Eighty percent of what I watch is on HBO and the other 20 percent is basketball and Keith Olbermann,” he said in the release. “The NBA and Keith said no, so this worked out great."

McKay told Variety that the idea behind the Web site was to find new comedy talent.

"Our idea in going into Funny Or Die was that it would be a kind of clubhouse for us and friends of ours who could come and try stuff that they couldn't do as easily in movies or TV," McKay told Varitey.

He said the partners want to take a similar approach at HBO.

“I love that this deal expands on the initial idea that got Will and I into this Web site to begin with,” McKay told Variety.

HBO did not say when the Funny Or Die series would begin airing.
