'Bones' creator gets cranky

The cast of "Bones" (from left): TJ Thyne, Michaela Conlin, Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Tamara Taylor and Eric Millegan.
Even though Fox network’s “Bones” is one of the only shows to gain viewers after the writers strike, it’s been the network’s whipping boy.
And that makes creator and executive producer Hart Hanson (below) cranky, he told reporters during a conference call Friday.
“I hope [the Fox Winter 2009 schedule] is another ‘Bones’ is moving to Friday joke,” Hanson said.
The show, which stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel, has been put in several different nights during its first three years, and when it returns for its fourth season it will air on two different nights. In the fall, it's scheduled for Wednesdays but in January 2009 it falls on Fridays.
“I’m cranky about it on a whole bunch of levels,” Hanson said. “We are a very good pairing with ‘House,’ so to be split up from them bugs me."
Hanson is happy that fans are following the show—a fun mashup of romcom and crime procedural—to whatever night it airs. He said the show has gained viewers since the strike. (Maybe, maybe not, go to the jump for the Season 3 ratings numbers.)
“Our audience is following us. It’s gratifying,” he said.
Hanson kept quiet on the Season 3 finale, airing at 7 p.m. Monday, but did say it would provide the strike-delayed wrap-up of the Gormogon serial killer storyline. Bones and Booth suspect that someone at the Jeffersonian Institute is working as the killer's apprentice.

Hmmm, he just needs to be grateful, at the moment. FOX might get cranky back and pull the plug on the show. 'Bones' is lucky it's survived this long. He should be thanking FOX. FOX has been saying it's going to move 'Bones' to Fridays, for the past two years. No move was made. Only, repeats. Unfortunately, with new shows airing on FOX this coming fall, 'Bones' might have no other choice but to move to Fridays in January. Looking at the January 2009 schedule, there's no other night it can be moved. I HIGHLY doubt FOX will move 'Dollhouse', '24', 'House', or 'Fringe' (two huge rating bringers and two new shows that are generating a lot of love/buzz from FOX, media and fans, alike) to Fridays so they accomodate 'Bones'.
As for HH stating 'Bones' gained viewers, post strike, the first post strike episode only did about 8.2 million. The last episode aired before the strike had about 9.6 million. That's a decrease in viewers, correct? Maybe, I'm not seeing something? I just go by the final ratings.
Curt's reply: Hi PR, thanks for writing in. I'm not sure how Hanson is figuring his numbers, but it looks like, overall, maybe "Bones" has had more viewers post-strike, if you average out the numbers. I'm no math whiz, however. Take a look on the post's jump for numbers. Thanks again.

The way HH was talking, I thought it would be a huge increase, but it's only a very slight increase. That's why I was a bit skeptical. Thanks, again :)
Don't get me wrong, I was a fan of 'Bones'. I enjoyed season 1, and most of season 2, very much.
Curt's reply: No problem. Thanks for bringing it up. So a very slight increase is all. It is a huge increase over ratings for all the repeats from Dec. and Jan.-Feb., but that's not a fair comparison. Those network folks love to spin numbers any which way to make things look good. Thanks again.
