About this blog
Growing up three doors apart in the sleepy suburbs of Chicago, Matt Lynch and Ryan Pedersen could agree on many things. Baseball was not one of them. Matt is a Cubs fan, Ryan is a White Sox fan. Despite this seemingly insurmountable obstacle, their friendship has endured. Now roommates in a Wrigleyville apartment, they are joining forces to bring you two fans' respective takes on the Cubs, White Sox, and all things baseball.

Heavens to Betsy!

Posted by Ryan - May 7, 2008, 10:30 a.m.

Why I have never been so offended and appalled by the way that the White Sox behaved themselves this past Sunday in their own clubhouse in Toronto.  Blow up dolls in inappropriate positions!?!?  This is blasphemy, a mockery of the sport.

This is how I might have responded to the situation that continues to make headlines and swirl around the team as a topic of controversy if I were: A. a 70 year old woman or B. a controversy stirring, argumentative fool.  Unless you’ve had your head buried in the ground the last couple of days, or don’t ingest sports news hourly like I do, then you’ve been subjected to many journalists opining on the issue of two female blow up dolls artfully displayed in precarious positions amongst baseball bats.

Now, as a fan of the team this just shows me that they are going to great lengths to buoy morale during a brutal slump for everyone.  I’m not exactly thrilled that blow up dolls are a part of the slump busting cadence if only because, well they are admittedly using dolls for a purpose.  That strikes me as odd.  Anytime a doll is involved with grown men, one must take a step back to assess the situation.

That is, assess the situation for what it is and what it was meant to be; a joke.  This is being blown way out of proportion and now it has been reported that MLB Commissioner Bud Selig has talked to the Sox about the display and its appropriateness or lack thereof.  Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see what all the hoopla is about.
