iPTIB shops the App Store: LED Football

Monday, September 8, 2008 -- 8:49 p.m. -- at my desk

Ledfootball

Talk about a blast from the past. Holy cow. That old handheld football game is back and better than ever in LED Football. And, it costs just 99 cents!!

To be completely honest, this app makes me want to find the developer and give him a hug. It's perfect. The sound, the play, the memories ... all there. It's the kind of thing that when you see it for the first time in 20 years, you are instantly transported to a simpler time.

And on the developer's Web site, it says more LED games coming soon.

More? I"m still trying to get over this.

Here's what I remember about that time. I was one of those computer geeks (surprise!) who had 2 Commodore computers and all the games for them. But I also loved electronic games -- my name for handheld games such as these. When a birthday came around, I'd always hint for an electronic game of some sort. I had a drawer full of them. I can see my room and that drawer now.

My grandfather used to buy me a lot of this stuff, and I remember him just surprising me and my face lighting up. And he'd leave out the batteries and I'd look at him like everything was hopeless and he'd take out a few 9 volts and some C cells from his pocket and laugh. We'd play for hours.

And I was happy. And seeing this game made me happy like that again.

Anyhow, enough of the sappy stuff. In my humble opinion, this will be the best 99 cents you spend today. While the game is a shadow of what games are today, it represents gaming the way it used to be. And while not everyone of a young age may appreciate that the way I do, I think you'll enjoy it just the same.

Do let me know what you think.

Thanks for calling.

HOT DIGGETY! I love it. It's like those certain smells that take you back... Just seeing this brings back so many memories.

cool.. they should make a replica of that old vibrating football game too, with the big metal board. :)

I also like the description.. "Electronic sports at its best." I think my PS3 would resemble that remark. :)

This is the first app that I bought instantly, the price point helped too. great app brings back memories of the handheld version from Radio Shack, I think. The sounds are exactly as I remember.
