New blog banner! Now I just need a new icon

Monday, August 25, 2008 -- 12:34 p.m. -- on my couch

Iptib

Normally, I wouldn't blog about my new banner at the top of my blog, but I was blown away by all the nice folks that wrote to ask when they'd see a banner/logo that featured the updated iPhone/software.

So here you go ... RedEye recently redesigned its print publication, so to coincide with that we updated the Web banners.

I just need a new icon and I'll be all set. Since the photo in my icon was taken, I've lost about 65 pounds. So if you can stand my big fat head on your iPhones for just a little longer, I'll work on that next :-D

Thanks for calling.

You look wonderful & you deserve a new icon!!

SCOTT'S REPLY: LOL. That's really nice of you to say, Vernadette. Thanks.

Congrats on losing the weight. I saw your new pic on the 5 on 5 in the RedEye over the last couple of weeks. The new design looks great.

SCOTT's REPLY: Thanks! Yep, that's me!! iPhone expert and sports expert -- yeah, right!!

Glad you like the redesign. I'll pass that along to the powers that be.

Hey Scott, How did you lose the 65 pounds??

SCOTT's REPLY: Honestly, just started eating better and walking to work when I can. It's about a 25 minute walk for me. That's really all. It's just something I knew I needed to do for a while and I feel so much better now that I have done it.

WOW!!! that is amazing. Great for you. I guess it helped to marry iWife and have two iPhones and run after this blog.

congrats.

Love the banner!!

Neil

SCOTT'S REPLY: Ha! Thanks. Actually, marrying iWife is better than anything else I've ever done.

Scott:

Actually, I prefer my bloggers to be a tad on the chunky side. Just kidding. You look good and healthy, my friend. Congratulations! Now if you go into a bit more detail on what you mean by "just started eating better". I could stand to drop 65 pounds, too.

Jeff

SCOTT's REPLY: ha!! Actually, just more salads, less fast food. My cheeseburgers from McDonald's have been replaced with Southwest salads with grilled chicken and no dressing. Stuff like that. Oh, and I've given up Mountain Dew and caramel machiattos. Tough, but necessary.

Hi Scott,

I enjoy your blog a lot and you always make valid points. The new look is refreshing, and suits you. Congrats on the weight loss.

If your looking to design a logo for the iPTIB site, then let me offer our creative services. Our recent work can be viewed at www.eo-creative.com

Let me know if we can assist.

Derek

SCOTT"S REPLY: Nice of you to say and thanks for the offer, Derek. Currently, we're handling that kind of stuff in house, but I appreciate you offering up your services.

Looking good Scott! I think you need to change the "on my couch"
posts to "on the tread mill"! Not to sure about the tie, I was expecting a black turtle-neck!

SCOTT's REPLY: I thought about wearing a black turtleneck! I really did. I should have. I was on the fence.

Posted by: Greg | Aug 25, 2008 6:41:37 PM

Why, Scott! Is that really you?! I almost thought i was looking at Steve Jobs in a shirt and tie! Lol! :-)

I wish i had your discipline and lose weight/get fit. God knows i need to. Got an upcoming physical test in Jan '09 that i really wish i can pass for once (something most guys below 40 have to do here once abt a year)!

Anyway, you're looking good and smart. All the best!

SCOTT'S REPLY: Thanks. Nice of you to say ... so you really have mandatory physicals in Singapore?? Is it for insurance or a government thing? I learn the most fascinating stuff from my international callers. From my domestic callers, too, but you know what I mean.

We call it National Service. All males are required by the govt to serve 2 yrs either in the Armed Forces (army/air force/navy), Civil Defence Force (fire fighters/rescuers) or Police Force when they reach 18 years of age. Its been done since the late 60s/early 70s i think, after we became independent in '65). Overall, the experience is priceless, but the pay sucks big time!

After the 2-yr service, you are generally required to return annually (until age 40 or you drop dead, whichever comes first) for what we call "reservist training" which can last as long as one day to a couple of weeks. It's basically to keep you updated on the skills you learned so you hopefully won't be totally ignorant and/or weigh 400 pounds when your service is called for in times of emergency!

It's during these annual call-ups that we usually need to go through physical fitness tests. If you fail, they just shoot you on the spot. Just kidding...but you get cash if you pass! I only have 4 more yrs before i reach 40, so i am hoping to pass at least once before then! Lol!

We're a tiny island of 4.6m people surrounded by huge (and sometimes a pain) countries, so we need all the resources we can get. :-)

SCOTT'S REPLY: Absolutely fascinating stuff.

The new banner is cool.. but it looks a little pixelated, not as clean as the old one..

SCOTT'S REPLY: Indeed. We noticed that and we're looking into the settings to figure out what happened.

Posted by: Brian | Aug 26, 2008 10:54:24 AM

Wow, you really can notice a difference in your picture - well, compared to the old picture, from the nose up :-)
You should have worn that turtleneck though!

Well done on the weight loss - that's a huge achievement, although I do think some of those pounds have flown across the pond and landed on me.

SCOTT'S REPLY: LOL. Thanks. And yeah, I should have done the turtleneck. I'm regretting it now.
