iPhone 3G now available in 22 more countries

Sunday, August 24, 2008 -- 3:12 p.m. -- at my desk

Newspots

Just as Apple promised, the iPhone 3G is now available in 22 more countries effective this past Friday.

More bars, more places indeed. And while that's technically just AT&T, I'm going to borrow it.

Here's where:

Twenty-two additional countries join the list of places where you can buy the iPhone 3G. They include:

Argentina
Chile
Colombia
Czech Republic
Ecuador
El Salvador
Estonia
Greece
Guatemala
Honduras
Hungary
India
Liechtenstein
Macau
Paraguay
Peru
the Philippines
Poland
Romania
Singapore
Slovakia
Uruguay

Obviously, with each country being different, if you go to this section of the Apple Web site, you'll find a list of all the countries and a Web page with information specific to that country. You'll also find a list of where the iPhone is still to come, and that list features:

Botswana
Brazil
Cameroon
C. African Republic
Croatia
Dominican Republic
Egypt
Equatorial Guinea
Guinea
Guinea-Bissau
Ivory Coast
Jamaica
Jordan
Kenya
Latvia
Lithuania
Madagascar
Mali
Malta
Mauritius
Nicaragua
Niger
Panama
Qatar
Senegal
South Africa
Turkey
Venezuela

And it was rumored the other day that Russia is getting on board soon. The amazing march around the world continues.

If you are in any of these countries, I would love to hear from you ... and I know that the strong international community we have now (57 countries and counting, which actually includes countries that are not on either list) would love to hear your perspective as well.

Thanks for calling.

I'm only buying the lower cost thing. There was mention at Apple's last quarterly review of some special pricing that would affect market share. The question is which business unit(s) though? ipods, Macs or iPhone?

My guess, Macs and iPods. Macs because double digit market share is desired due to halo affect.. and also iPods since Apple wants a strong Christmas season despite the slow economy. Both products are due for updates which is great timing to change pricing.

This is great news. The way I see it, the more countries that have the iPhone, the more people developing applications for the App Store. This is a win for everyone involved.

SCOTT"s REPLY: I agree 100 percent, Josh.

i still can't believe that Puerto Rico isn't getting an iphone, even thought AT&T covers the whole island.

SCOTT"s REPLY: I wonder what the issue is down there ... I didn't think about it.

well they don't have an apple store, so at&t will have to take care of costumer support, i mean heck computers over there are still pc, they just got a best buy about a year ago, so will see if it will come through them.

SCOTT"s REPLY: Hope so ... More bars, more places, more better.

which country will be released next after the 2nd term

SCOTT'S REPLY: After the second term? Well, not sure ... but according to reports, Russia and hopefully ... eventually ... China.

I noticed your e-mail address. Are you writing from Mauritius?
