Movies just got better on your iPhone

Thursday, May 1, 2008 -- 11:25 a.m. -- on my couch

Grab your popcorn, movie lovers. Good news from Apple.

New movie releases from major film studios and premier independent studios are available for purchase on the iTunes Store on the same day as their DVD release and this includes new releases and catalog titles from 20th Century Fox, Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal Studios, Sony, Lionsgate, Image Entertainment and First Look Studios.

Now this doesn't specifically talk about rentals -- we'll get to the bottom of that soon.

New releases available for purchase on the iTunes Store this week, concurrent with their DVD release, include "American Gangster" and "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." Other popular titles now available for purchase include "Juno," "Cloverfield," "I Am Legend," "There Will Be Blood," "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story."

So now there's really no reason to go out and buy the DVD, unless you are a collector and love the extras, of course ... I just like knowing that big films will be in iTunes in a timely manner.
