According to Gizmodo, the 2.0 iPhone software will feature a standalone contacts application. This is obviously something that many of us have been asking for and now puts the iPhone on par with the iPod touch.
You can read the full article at Gizmodo here.
This goes back to the one thing I mentioned in earlier posts -- what you've seen so far in terms of the new software isn't necessarily what you are going to get. There will likely be surprises -- and perhaps shockers in terms of features you see now not making the cut. That happens a lot on the Mac OS -- there are still some features that have been talked about that haven't seen the light of day.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks for calling.

that is just one of the small things that I like about my jailbroken iPhone, I've had the dedicated contacts icon for months now. I'm running 1.1.4 and have had no problems whatsoever.
Keep up the good work on the blog, I check it so much, I think I'll have to cancel the texts.
SCOTT'S REPLY: It's funny you mention the texts, Nick. I'm hearing that I'm perhaps being repetitive in terms of the blog and text -- that's ok. I can understand :-D
I appreciate you checking as much as you do!

I'd very much welcome a stand alone Contacts button - it annoys me having to go into the Phone application first. And it annoys me more that the iPod touch has it and we don't.
SCOTT'S REPLY: Yep. It annoys me too. I always want to just hit the icon and go without having to select phone and then select contacts. This is proof that Apple is listening because this is something we've been all asking for.
So ... Apple? Cut and paste? Hmmmm?
Posted by: Kim | Mar 31, 2008 2:58:23 PMscott- everybody seems to want cut and paste but I do not understand why. Can you explain its usefulness?
SCOTT'S REPLY: Cut and paste? Something from safari to the note pad? E-mail to a text message? Or e-mail to contacts? I can't think of a more useful thing, to be honest.
Posted by: Jake | Mar 31, 2008 6:04:58 PMYeah.. like nick, I've had the contacts button since 1.1.1.. Don't know why that didn't come in the stock firmwares.. it's really easy to add.
SCOTT'S REPLY: I don't know why either, Brian. It really needs to be there.
Posted by: Brian | Mar 31, 2008 6:56:53 PMAlso... I want to be able to synch my Notes with my Mac. This seems to be such a no-brainer! Cut-and-Paste, I can live without on the iPhone. But I want to be able to synch my stuff!
SCOTT'S REPLY: The notes app, Jason, is by far the iPhone's weakest application. It's barely disguised as an actual notes app in my humble opinion.
