WANT DAILY IPTIB TEXT ALERTS? TEXT IPHONE TO 25808
You all may have seen iLounge's report today about the SDK.
In a nutshell, iLounge's sources say that the final SDK isn't due until June, iTunes will be the central hub for downloading the apps and developers likely won't have access to products that use the dock connector, but will have access to Wi-Fi and the camera.
Good story ... the new part of this is the dock connector limitation. If true, it would certainly impact the kinds of great things we could get.
I've mentioned before that iTunes will be the hub for the applications. I've mentioned that Apple will want full and strict control over what an official app is. And I've mentioned that we have to be prepared that an event called the SDK roadmap could mean that we get only a taste first and the full meal later.
iLounge is right on that stuff ... this isn't the world premiere. This is the final trailer. The time between March 6 and June is actually going to be the most exciting time in the SDK world, even if it makes us bite our nails off and pull our hair out.
Feel free to discuss in the comments ... I know you all want the SDK badly and are trying hard to wait ... I know it's not easy. Believe me, I do. ... but I think what we see March 6 will be pretty wowing. I really do.
I hope I'm right.
Thanks for calling.

I guess the people who jailbreak their iPhone's will have the best of both worlds.. at least I hope so.
Brian - who now has 1.1.4 unlocked iPhone
SCOTT'S REPLY: And it will be most interesting on both sides to see where the grass is greener.
Posted by: Brian | Feb 29, 2008 12:46:48 PMI am already beginning to feel underwhelmed....It reminds me of all those reasons for all those years that I made fun of Apple and their closed architecture...Is it really so bad to have direct access to the think through your own PC in a way that lets you add or subtract things as you want? I had that ability years ago on my Compaq iPaq, adding and subtracting programs at will, and the world did not collapse. If the right Windows Mobile phone would come (i.e. lighter and thinner than a brick) out with some of the Internet and email features, I might be tempted to go back...
SCOTT'S REPLY: There's nothing Windows Mobile can do to wow you above an iPhone, Jon ... the minute you make the switch, you'll want to switch back. I don't think it's something you should feel underwhelmed about ... I do wish the whole process was faster and that is trying the old patience for sure ... but I don't think you'll be unhappy with what happens next week. I just think it will take time for all the puzzle pieces to fall into place.
Posted by: Jon | Feb 29, 2008 1:50:34 PMI would have to assume that most, of the unofficial apps coders will want to be official, so I'm sure both sides will have close to the same "greenness".
SCOTT'S REPLY: True, Brian. True.

Posted by: mike mcmorris | Feb 29, 2008 3:07:19 PMam so sick and tired of apple right now. It seems to me that they keep putting out ooooo's and wow's but never deliver. They keep dragging us along to make us believe something great will come along, but I have yet to see it. These features that we want and need to be on the Phone should have been on there from the jump. I keep thinking about switching out to another phone, and I think Its about time I go ahead and do it. Because I am really tired of thinking and waiting for the SDK to be released and then it gets pushed back. The only reason I still have the Phone, is because I thought The sdk would have been released by now. Because really how long was the novelty of a touch feature on the phone suppose to last???? It lacking key features that will make the phone great
SCOTT'S REPLY: I actually told this to someone else today ... sometimes it feels that way, but if you switch, you'll kick yourself for it. Wait it out ... it only gets better from here.
