Verizon joins Google's Android project

Tuesday, December 4, 2007 -- 10:05 a.m. -- on my couch

I'm sure you remember all the talk about Google's phone and then not a phone and ultimately a software platform.

Verizon announced Tuesday that it will be a part of it.

OK, Verizon. Good call. Now don't blow it. This is your chance to morph from stodgy, boring cell phone company to something that resembles now.

Oh, and while I'm addressing you directly, Verizon, that Voyager? Ugh.

What does everyone else think? Will AT&T - which has said it's only considering the alliance - be forced to move faster with the other mobile companies doing much more than considering? What will happen to the leader of the network dude in glasses? Tune in next week ...
