I am so ready for podcasts at the Wi-Fi store

Sunday, November 18, 2007 -- 7:31 p.m. -- at my desk

NewpodI don't download nearly enough podcasts, but my goal is to change that.

Whether audio or video, there's no reason I shouldn't broaden my horizons ... especially since Apple makes it so easy to do with automatic downloads. If they synced to my iPhone automatically, well, then it would be better than gold.

But if those podcasts could be downloaded directly to my phone via the wi-fi store? I think I'd move to Starbucks. Of course, I like it at Starbucks as it stands now, but that would be fantastic. The subject matter available on podcasts isn't only fascinating, it's free!

Do you all have favorite podcasts? I had a thought ... why don't you send along your faves and let's make a playlist of iPhone, Therefore I Blog callers' favorite podcasts. We could all be enlightened.

So leave a comment and let me know and I'll keep track.

Thanks for calling.

I love podcasts. I listen to them more than music lately. THere are a lot of NPR ones that I listen to, and also the New Yorker podcasts (they have the cartoons, it is amazing how well New Yorker cartoons translate to the iPhone screen). The ABC world news podcast is the best news podcast out there, it actually is as good as the news. Here is the current list of podcasts on my lil iPhone (I only own a 4 gig one)

New Yorker Comment
The Economist
The New Yorker Animated Cartoons
KCRW's Left, RIght and Center
PBS NOW with David Bro...
NPR Driveway Moments
NPR Fresh Air
NPR Most Emailed Stories
NPR This I Believe
Podictionary
The Princeton Review Vocabulary Minute
This American Life
News from Lake Wobegone
The Ethicist
NYT Front Page
The New Yorker Out Loud
On Being (from the Washington Post)
Daily Tao
Shields and Brooks from the Jim Lehrer Newshour Podcasts
ABC World News Podcast.

Hmmm, I think I may have a problem..

SCOTT'S REPLY: Yep, your problem is that you are educating yourself -- seriously, nothing wrong with that, my friend. Nice list!! Anyone else want to share?

Most NPR stuff for me:

Must have: This American Life - NPR/Chicago Public Radio
Every Monday, just fantastic stories

WNYC's Radio Lab - great stories and presented in a really interesting way, great audio-production presentation.

WXRT's Lin's Bin and Goin' to the Show With The Regular Guy

NPR's Car Talk - good humor

SCOTT'S REPLY: Great list. Isn't car talk great??

The best iPhone podcast I've listened to is "today in iPhone", very informative and interactive with listeners. Favorite video podcast is the "1up show", covers video games. As a home WiFi user I would love to see podcast downloads through the WiFi store on the iPhone, one less reason to turn my computer on.

SCOTT'S REPLY: I have to look for this "today in iPhone." Sounds like something I could do :-D

Is it me, or are many of the podcast's volume too low? I cannot listen to This American Life on public tranposrtation, I can not hear ir, but I have no problem with Most Emailed Stories or Podictionary. I go looking for podcast all the time, but I search them out based on how long they last and if I can fit them into the commute.

I mix them with the shortest songs in my library and it is so nice. I think I will work on some transitions pieces in GarageBand, because even a two minute song makes you restless when listening to info. Thank Jobs for the clicker on the headphones

SCOTT'S REPLY: Hmmmm. I don't listen to all that many, but I've never had any trouble with volume. Anyone else lend a hand?
