Apparently, Green is king

Bookcover

True story, and while it was annoying at the time, it's really funny.

My wife and I were on the Brown Line the other morning on the way to Lakeview when a woman and her son -- probably 5 or 6 years old -- get on at like Randolph and Wabash.

This kid is hysterical. Screaming. And at first it was hard to make out what the problem was, but then as the cries filled the car and it became impossible to concentrate on anything else, it became clear.

"I wanted Greeeeeen. Waaaaaaaaah. Green, mom!"

Yes, readers, this young man was having a temper tantrum over his mom's choice to ride the Brown instead of the Green.

I was surprised. Personally, I think Brown blows Green out of the water, with the exception of the cool tunnel near IIT.

Eventually, his mom redirected his attention to the book he was carrying. And he became one with Brown, although he cried sporadically as we approached Sedgwick and Armitage.

Hopefully, he gets his wish and gets to go Green someday. But kid, let me give you a little piece of advice. Orange. That's where the excitement is at.

Doors closing. Until next time.

I like the green line better than the brown. The green line takes you east, west, and loop. Green gives you a better view of chicago. The brown line is boring unless you're in the loop.

If you're on the blue line, it has those two double doors. Awesome! Red line is too long and drowsy. I need to check out the orange line. I hear it's awesome!

SCOTT'S REPLY: Do check out orange. It just feels good to ride the Orange Line. Hard to describe, but it does. Red makes my stomach turn. It smells horrible.

After having to ride all of the lines for work commutes, (Well, sans orange) I've found the following:

Red Line: 2 stops = 20 minutes, If there's a cubs game, expect puke in the car

Purple Line: Good luck finding one heading North that's not 10-20 minutes late, does this line actually exist??

Skokie Swift: Fast, 10 minute ride, but you have to ride 8 other lines to finally get home

Blue Line: 2 stops = 30 minutes. . hope you gave yourself enough time for check-in

Brown Line: 2 stops = 15 minutes. . .I hope no one near you is wearing too much perfume. . and watch out for mysterious "butt grabbers" in the crowded train that try to act like its the overcrowdedness and train movements that caused them to do that

Pink/Green: 2 stops = 5 minutes. . .my current commute. Ah sweet bliss.

No wonder the kid wanted green.
