Sure, we just said goodbye to Jason Castro, but it's time to prepare ourselves for Syesha Mercado's departure. Sad, but true. There's really not a chance that she can disrupt what has been destined for weeks now: a clash of the Davids.

Syesha has some qualities that the Davids don't possess, mainly a stronger, more versatilve voice, but the Davids have a rabid fan base. Neither of them has been in the at-risk group of singers at all this season. Syesha has been a mainstay in the lowest votegetters. She also has better stage presence than David A. and rivals David C. Her personality has shown through moreso in these last few weeks than either of the Davids. But it will all end next week.

That's what my gut tells me, at least. What about you?

Hey, if you're on Facebook or Twitter, sign up for the Vital Idol group and Vital Idol page.

Update: 9 p.m.

Well, it was fun having Jason around, but next week it gets serious. Syesha, David A. and David C. in the race to the finals.

Update: 8:58 p.m.

Yes, we get to see the "I didn't know a cat was singing it." quote again.

Update: 8:56 p.m.

Jason is gone. There was no doubt about that one.

Update: 8:54 p.m.

Jason and Syesha are back on stage.

Update: 8:50 p.m.

Results coming up.

Update: 8:47 p.m.

Bice breaks out the "talk box." Somewhere, Peter Frampton is collecting a royalty check.

Update: 8:44 p.m.

Here's Bo Bice with "Witness."

Update: 8:40 p.m.

The best thing about the show so far has been the "Indiana Jones" trailer.

Update: 8:36 p.m.

Here's Maroon 5. With "If I Never See Your Face Again." Adam Levine just inhaled some helium before this performance.

Update: 8:32 p.m.

A 14-year-old calls in and asked about the finalists' biggest challenges. Jason says his "brain being dead." At least he's honest.

Update: 8:31 p.m.

Now, it's viewer phone calls. Ugh. David Cook gets asked out on a date. Creepy. And he plays along.

Update: 8:25 p.m.

Syesha and Jason are now on stage. One of them will be voted off.

Update: 8:23 p.m.

David Cook is out next, and he's safe.

Update: 8:16 p.m.

After this week, the "Idols" all head home. Three of them as finalists, the other as a loser.

Update: 8:14 p.m.

David A. is out for the revealing of some results. He is safe. Like there was any doubt. Nice try to create suspense, "Idol" suits.

Update: 8:11 p.m.

Last night's recap: Syesha's smokin'. David C. is chokin'. Jason is tokin'. David A. is Tolkien. Sorry, ran out of rhymes. But David A. is somewhat like a hobbit, right? OK, probably not.

Update: 8:05 p.m.

Sure, Jason Castro stunk it up last night, but on his solo lines during the group song, he's not bad. He's actually got a pretty distinctive delivery.

Update: 8:03 p.m.

"I wasn't angry, I was just surprised at some of the disastrous song choices," Simon Cowell says of last night's show. And right on cue, here's comes the Top 4 with "Reeling In the Years." Talk about a disaster.

Update: 8:02 p.m.

The Top 3 were each separated by less than 1 million votes. Also, rapper Bob Ice is in the house tonight. What? Oh, Bo Bice.

Update: 8:01 p.m.

There were more than 51 million votes cast this week. None of them will help Hillary Clinton win the Democratic presidential nomination.

Update: 7:39 p.m.

The voteoff is fast approaching. Dust off your dreadlock jokes and prepare your goodbyes for Jason Castro.

In the meantime, here's a photo gallery of last night's performances and a poll.

I'll be back in a bit to blog live during the voteoff.

Oh, for God's sake would someone tell the 'suits' that this phone in segment is the most lame thing ever?!

BRIAN'S REPLY: I'm not a fan, either, Randy. It's such a contrived time-filler. Just make the results show a half-hour already.
