Fox cuts down results show

"American Idol" ratings rebounded this week as the show revealed the finale matchup of David Archuleta vs. David Cook. Wednesday's show was the night's top show with 24.3 million viewers.
Still, "Idol" experienced steep declines this season. Last season, it averaged around 30 million viewers. This season, the final numbers are yet to be determined, but it's been drawing less than 25 million for quite a while now after starting the season above the 30 million mark.
The drop provoked Fox officials to act.
Fox execs said they were disappointed with the ratings decrease for "Idol" this season and will cut back the Wednesday results show to 30 minutes next season.
That's a good move. The results show was chock-full of filler this season, including those ridiculous viewer calls. Now, if we can only do something about Paula.

Paula is the only reason I watch American Idol. and actually, ratings for Idol in May last year were also under or around 25 million. not 30 million. idol always goes down towards the end of the season because a lot of people arent interested in the good singers. but then the audience always comes back for the auditions.
BRIAN'S REPLY: The declines have been steeper this season. For the entire season last year, "Idol" averaged around 30 million. That won't happen this season. It hit five-year lows in ratings several times in the past month.
