Host with the most?

Posted by Brian Moore - 3:10 a.m. Saturday, April 26

I'm not sure about you all, but "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest often annoys me. He truly seems to think he is the most important part of the show. He's not. He comes in around fourth, by my count.

The most important part of the show, in my eyes, is the panel of judges. If it were anyone other than Randy, Simon and Paula, it just wouldn't be the same. No way. Next, of course, the singers. Without them, there'd be nothing to watch. Third, the viewers, or voters. Without the audience participation, it would just be the judges' decisions. And if that were the case, David Archuleta would win this season without a doubt.

Ryan is the fourth most important part of the show. Frankly, anyone could do his job. Maybe not better, but they could do it. I have simply tired of his back-and-forth with Simon and the homosexual undertones of their banter. Why is that subject funny to them? Is someone trying to out the other? I don't get it.

Nevertheless, he's a part of TV's No. 1 show, and thus deserves credit for being a big part of it.

My fellow blogger Curt Wagner talks in this post about how the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Board of Governors has created a category for “Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program” to be handed out at the Emmys and how it could go to Seacrest. And Curt wants to know if Seacrest is in the running for best reality TV host.

I concur, Brian. Seacrest annoys me. As a gay man, let me say that I hope he does NOT 'play on my team", but gaydar indicators suggest that he does.

BRIAN'S REPLY: I'll take your word for it.
